SHOREWELL PRESENTS....Dear Friend
Attention Shorewell Park residents: Have you seen this letter in your mailbox???
Here’s why……
Burnie Community House (BCH) is once again working with Ten Days on the Island (TDotI) and Urban Theatre Projects (UTP) to bring you the next instalment of the March 2019 festival project SHOREWELL PRESENTS.
Shorewell Presents… Dear Friend, is a pen pal project that will bring together community members with artists from Tasmania and Western Sydney to share stories. In a time when human interactions have been disrupted, UTP and BCH will provide a chance for connection and creative expression through the old-fashioned art of letter writing, pictures or voice recordings.
Lindy Hume, Artistic Director of Ten Days on the Island, says:
“Ten Days on the Island looks forward to the outcomes of this grassroots campaign, driven by the community of Shorewell Park. Sharing stories and creative expression are great ways of connecting people. How wonderful in this digital age to take the time to write a letter to someone you’ve never met, or to receive one, and take your time again to consider your response!
“As we look to the future, we are excited to participate in this Dear Friend adventure, an intriguing journey to share with the Shorewell Park community and – perhaps – the with world at Festival time next year.”
The partnership has been welcomed by Dr Tracy Edington-MacKay, Manager of Burnie Community House:
“We’re delighted to be working again in partnership with Ten Days on the Island, Urban Theatre Projects and Shorewell Park residents to commence Stage Two of Shorewell Presents… Quite frankly, this couldn’t have come at a better time as we know how arts-based projects enrich, excite and bring communities together.”
Letters have been delivered to all residents in Shorewell Park asking for a pen pal relationship to be started. Artists are ready to respond and Burnie Community House has the Shorewell Present room ready and waiting for community members to use if they wish. The Shorewell Presents “Postie” is available on Thursday and Friday mornings (other times via appointment) if you are not quite sure how to get started but would like to participate. We are ready and waiting to support your letter writing, voice message or picture, with a dedicated letterbox on site at BCH. Remember any Shorewell resident can participate....kids included!!!!

Ten Days on the Island Festival will run from 5 – 29 March 2021 across Tasmania. The full program will be announced in January 2021.
